DigiTimes is reporting that a deal between Nintendo and Foxconn has been reached, which is going to start production in October. Pegatron Technology is also seemingly trying to take on some orders.

DigiTimes further reports that Nintendo plans to have orders finalized sometime around March of 2016, ramping up to full production around May or June of 2016. Digitimes is also reporting that Nintendo is looking to ship 20 million units in the first year.

To put that into perspective, the Wii took over a year to reach 20 million units sold and the 3DS took somewhere around a year and a half to reach that mark. The Wii U has yet to hit half that mark as of March of 2015. The 20 million, if accurate, seems incredibly ambitious.

According to DigiTimes sources, the potential release for Nintendo's new console may be July of 2016. Though, until we hear directly from Nintendo, we can't be entirely sure.

We still don't even really know what the Nintendo NX is other than it is a new console from Nintendo. Nintendo has also said they do not plan to release details until sometime in 2016. All we know is that Nintendo is not thinking of the NX as a replacement for either the Wii U or the 3DS. Whatever that means is anyone's guess.

With the so far abysmal sales of the Wii U, and the age of the 3DS, many might be wondering what the future of the consoles will be with the release of the Nintendo NX. In a recent shareholder meeting, Satoru Iwata addressed that question, saying it makes little business sense to abandon the 3DS and Wii U, which will have much more robust libraries than the NX. Iwata further said:

As for Wii U, we will continue to make efforts, as it is a priority within the company to think about how we can satisfy the consumers who purchased this system to the maximum extent possible.
So, Nintendo is of course going to still try with the Wii U. The strategies to make it more relevant and/or appealing has yet to be seen.

What do you think the Nintendo NX will be? Could we see it as early as July of 2016?
