Yesterday, Nintendo released a new trailer for an upcoming title on their systems, Severed, in preparation for their E3 2016 conference.  Developed by Drinkbox Studios, and originally released on the PlayStation Vita, the game centers on Sasha, a one-armed girl who is assisted by a living sword in her quest to find her family.  The trailer for Severed can be viewed below.

Game play focuses on the use of the stylus in swipe-based controls to solve puzzles and fight the various monsters Sasha comes across.  The Nintendo trailer also mentions that various skills can be unlocked, and used to customize Sasha in the same manner as in RPGs.

Severed is scheduled for a 2016 release on both the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U systems, as well as iOS products.  There is currently no information on the price of the game, nor a more clear release date, available at this time; however, the original price on the PlayStation Vita is $14.99, as a reference.

Quick Take

I know the Nintendo E3 2016 conference has just begun, and there are many more games to be shown off, but I am really impressed with this title and think, outside of the obvious Nintendo titles, this might be one of the better games to be shown off today.  The art design is absolutely fantastic and brings to mind Día de Muertos with its usage of bright colors and exaggerated proportions.  Sure, the story does seem a little cliche based on the information available, and mechanically it's nothing new, but it looks very fun to play and likely will have a ton of replay value.
