Nintendo E3 2016 Paper Mario Color Splash

On June 15, following it's premiere at the Nintendo E3 2016 conference, the official Nintendo YouTube account released a new trailer for Paper Mario: Color Splash.  The trailer, which can be viewed below, focuses on story elements and introduces players to the plot of Paper Mario: Color Splash.

In this new title, Mario is delivered a letter which turns out to be a hapless Toad, drained of all it's color.  Aided by a talking can of paint, Mario sets out to restore color to the distressed denizens of Prism Island, and fight the forces responsible for draining the world of its color.

Paper Mario: Color Splash is set to release on October 7, 2016 for the Wii U.

Quick Take

Like I said in the Quick Take of my last article on Paper Mario: Color Splash, I'm not really impressed with the direction the series has been moving in since the jump to the Wii and 3DS consoles, and this trailer hasn't done anything to change my opinion.  There's very little game play that's shown, and what is shown doesn't look interesting or in any way an improvement from the previous title.  I stand by my reasoning that this is nothing more than a filler title Nintendo needed to have to fill their yearly Mario slot.  Going by the ratings on the trailer at the time of writing this article (4,759 likes to 5,105 dislikes), I'm not the only one who feels this way.
