The new Nintendo Direct showed off a lot of information on Ever Oasis, the desert-themed RPG by developer Grezzo.
Yoshinori Shizuma is in charge of the character designs, with Koichi Ishii, the lead designer of the Legend of Mana series and creator of iconic Final Fantasy stalwarts the Chocobo and Moogle, producing the game.
The goal of the game is to set up an oasis in a harsh desert filled with a dark force known as chaos. The player plays as a seedling who travels between the desert and their oasis they call home, collecting items and something called "doadems" to helps the oasis grow. As it grows, more travellers will come and visit, more shops and other storefronts will open, and your oasis will become a more lively, hospitable place.
The player is also helped by the water spirit Isumo, who extends the oasis further as players complete objectives. This means more shops, allies and travellers visiting your oasis over time in the game as it prospers.
Outside of the oasis, travelling the desert will be met with peril, as you fight off the chaos forces and search for ruins to obtain treasures for your troubles. Allies can join you on these dungeon delves, each with specific move-sets and weapon-styles, which you will need to fight against some enemies who will have weaknesses based on their damage type. Allies are also need to solve puzzles with skills they may only have, so teaming up with the right combination of allies is important to your success in Ever Oasis.
Ever Oasis features a crafting system. Items obtained in the field can be used to craft items that can be given to shops, or travellers who visit your oasis. Helping travellers accomplishing goals is a major part of the game, as it is one of the few ways you obtain new allies- travellers who have their goals fulfilled can join your oasis full time.
Ever Oasis is shaping up to be a very fun RPG. The game is slated for a 2017 release date on the Nintendo 3DS.
