At this E3 2019's Nintendo Direct, Platinum Games showed off a new trailer and more gameplay of the upcoming Astral Chain, an anime-style sci-fi action game.

The trailer showed off more of the game's flashy action, which involves commanding your Legion (the robotic creature things) to perform various maneuvers and synergistic attacks against the monstrous enemies known as chimeras. From the previous announcements, we know that you will be playing a rookie officer in Ark's elite police force, so in addition to the high-flying action in the trailers there will also be sequences in which you investigate crimes and interact with suspects and other NPCs.

From the trailer, we also learned a bit more about the world of Astral Chain. Humanity is currently under attack by the extra-dimensional monsters called chimeras. Pushed to the brink of annihilation, humanity developed the technology to capture the chimeras and chain the monsters to themselves as Legions with which to fight back before the chimera could pull the entire world into theirs. The narrators, however, imply that there is a hidden cost to using this power that has yet to be revealed.

Originally announced as part of February's Nintendo Direct, Astral Chain is the latest title from Platinum Games. Platinum's pedigree includes NieR: Automata, The Wonderful 101, and the Bayonetta series, so the expectations for this game are understandably high. From the gameplay revealed so far, it seems that the game will retain Platinum's style of ridiculous, over-the-top cinematic action that the studio is known for.

Astral Chain will be releasing exclusively on the Nintendo Switch on August 30, 2019.
