Platinum Games has officially announced a brand new title exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, titled Astral Chain.

Combining a futuristic police force with robotic ninjas in a war-torn city, Astral Chain has players utilize the Legion, a living weapon paired to the city's police force to do battle against what seem to be an invading alien force. The Legion are used for pretty much everything, from fighting the invading monsters to sniffing for clues, to riding on their backs in a moments notice. Specifically, they are shown to use spectral-looking chains to ensnare enemies as well, along with a number of other abilities that Platinum Games states will be a "synergetic action system of battle and exploration."

What that truly means is anyone's guess, but the games trailer hints at Astral Chain being possibly open-world in some form, as we see the police officers (in one case in a funny K-9 mascot suit) walking the streets and stopping minor crimes in the process. The full trailer, shown below, gives us a bird's eye view of the games overall themes, action sequences and gameplay.

The game also features an all-star production team of Platinum Games staples and famous outsiders. The big names mentioned in the trailer include character designs by manga artists Masakazu Katsuhira, known for the series Zetman and Wing-man. The game will be directed by Takahisa Taura, famous for his character designs and direction in NieR: Automata, who also did work for Anarchy Reigns, another Platinum titleThe game is also gaining additional supervision by veteran director Hideki Kamiya, who is well known as the director of Okami, The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta.

Astral Chain is a Nintendo Switch exclusive, scheduled for release on August 30th of this year.
