Aniplex released a trailer of the upcoming NieR: Automata Ver1.1a anime focusing on one of the most obscure characters that will appear in the adaptation of the popular game by Yoko Taro.
The trailer focuses on Lily, a member of the resistance who appears in the game only via text. She plays a more prominent role in the stage play and manga, so she'll be a new discovery for many of those who only played the game and didn't delve very deeply into its side content.
While we don't yet know for sure, she seems to have a more relevant role in the anime (enough to have her own trailer). She's also voiced by an actress who has been playing rather visible roles as of late, Atsumi Tanezaki. She lent her voice to Ethel in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Meteion in Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker, Elena in Star Ocean: The Divine Force, and Iori Fuyusaka in 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. Of course, since we're talking about anime, she's most well-known as Anya Forger in Spy × Family.
You can watch the trailer below.
The anime is going to debut on January 7, and it'll be streamed on Crunchyroll in western countries where the service is available.
It's animated by studio A-1 Pictures and directed by Ryoji Masuyama under the supervision of the franchise's creator Yoko Taro himself. The music will be composed by Keiichi Okabe’s studio MONACA, which is also behind the original soundtrack of the game. if you'd like to see more, you can check out another trailer from a few days ago.
If you're interested in the NieR: Automata game itself, it's currently available for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
