Ni no Kuni fans will have to wait a bit longer for the next game in the franchise - Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom has been delayed until January 19, 2018, according to a press release from publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment.
Ni No Kuni (literally, "The Second Country") is an RPG series developed by Level-5 where the player travels to a world mirroring their own where each person has a soul mate on the other side. The game was originally released on the Nintendo DS as Ni no Kuni: Dominion of the Dark Djinn in 2010 and subsequently released in an improved version for the PlayStation 3 as Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. The PlayStation 3 release of Ni No Kuni was generally received quite favorably with a score of 85 on Metacritic and a User Score of 8.7.
Level-5's sequel to the game was set to release for the PlayStation 4 and PC in 2017, but those plans have been changed. A video was uploaded to the company's YouTube channel where Level-5's CEO nicely encapsulates their reasoning for the delays along with clarifying that the game will not have multiplayer functionality and coverage of other topics. A short statement was also included with the press release:
“We have decided that more development time is required in order to deliver the full Ni no Kuni II experience to our fans. I deeply apologize to those who have been looking forward to the game's release. Please rest assured, however, that we will continue to strive to provide a deep and satisfying single player experience that our fans can look forward to enjoying.” - Akihiro Hino, CEO and President of LEVEL-5 Inc.
As Nintendo luminary Shigeru Miyamoto once said, "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad." For the moment, fans of Ni No Kuni will be waiting for until next year to get their hands on Level-5's latest RPG. In the meantime, why not have a gander at our hands-on impressions of the game? Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom will release for the PlayStation 4 and PC (via Steam) on January 19, 2018.
