The next Humankind update has been delayed on PC and Mac due to a "serious problem" discovered by the developers, but you'll still be able to test it out in a beta branch if you don't want to wait.

Humankind is a relatively new 4X game in the vein of Sid Meier's Civilization. Its developers have been fairly responsive to community concerns, removing Denuvo DRM due to performance impacts and delaying the Mac version at launch to ensure that they get it right. Since then, the devs have worked on some updates to fix bugs and add new features. Unfortunately, things will be slightly delayed this time around due to technical issues with the latest patch.

What's Coming in the Next Humankind Update?

The next Humankind update was intended to be the "Fabius Maximus" update and launch this week, but unspecified technical issues have led the developers to push back its launch.

"As you may know, we had intended to release the Fabius Maximus update with a number of quality of life and balance improvements this week, but unfortunately we discovered a serious problem at the beginning of the week that led to us pushing this patch back by a week," read today's Steam Community announcement.

The Fabius Maximum update is now scheduled to launch next week. However, you won't necessarily have to wait to play it -- you can access the "october_update_beta" by right-clicking on the game in your Steam Library and navigating to the betas tab.

This forthcoming update adds a fair few new features, some of which aim to improve quality-of-life for players. For example, a new color picker will allow you to adjust the colors of subtitles and the various empires in the game. Players will also be able to tweak the frequency of Strategic and Luxury resources in the game world. Also arriving in today's update are several balance changes including buffs to nuclear weapons and mammoths and nerfs to bonuses on higher difficulties.

These are just some of the features arriving in today's update; you can read about all of the changes in today's patch notes. You can buy Humankind for PC, Mac, Linux, and Google Stadia via its official website starting at $49.99 or your regional equivalent.

What are you most looking forward to in the next Humankind update? How do you think the game compares to Civilization and other 4X titles? Let us know in the comments below!
