Information detailing the October Xbox One update was announced on Xbox Live's Major Nelson's blog. This update is currently being rolled out to all members of the Xbox Live Preview Program but the changes have been listed for next month's console update which includes new snap features, improvements to TV and Movie support as well as some additional features.
The big new snapping features is the inclusion of having snapped messages as well as a snapped friends list. The achievement app will now also allow you to share your achievements over the activity feed to show off to friends what accomplishments you've fulfilled. In the friends section there will now also be a leader board that will rank you and your friends according to how much gamerscore you've gained in the past 30 days.
The larger update is the addition of support of a variety of media types including MKV. This means that you will be able to stream even more content between any storage devices on the same network as the Xbox One as well as being able to play all these supported files from any USB device plugged into your console directly. Available soon will be an Xbox One digital TV tuner in some countries including the UK, Spain and France, this will allow users to watch live digital TV and even be able to pause for up to 30 minutes. Using the TV tuner users will also be able to stream TV to other devices on your home network such as a mobile phone or a tablet.
One of the more general added changes is the ability to hide games and apps that aren't currently installed but are "Ready to install". This feature will be on a console bases so if you move you will have to re-hide the game or app.
This update is the October update, currently being tested by preview members, and will be available next month. You can check out Major Nelson's blog for more information or watch the video below.
