You're going to have to wait a few more weeks to play Amazon's upcoming MMORPG on PC — the New World release date has been delayed yet again, Thankfully, the New World delay is only for a few more weeks this time.
New World was originally planning to launch at the end of August 2021. Unfortunately (or perhaps, fortunately), Amazon Game Studios is taking fan feedback to heart and is pushing back the launch of the game to next month.
"We are humbled by the support New World received from players around the world throughout Closed Beta," read a tweet on the game's official account. "During Beta, more than a million adventurers played more than 16 million total hours. Thanks to your support, New World became one of the [most-watched] games on Twitch, and one of the most played games on Steam. The passion and enthusiasm you've shown for New World validates the work we've put in over the past year, improving the game based on your feedback."
"Along the way, you've also given us a ton of feedback that we'll use to make New World even better," the announcement continued. "We want New World's launch to be a smooth and fun experience for all players, and that means making some improvements based on what you encountered during Closed Beta. So we're going to take a few extra weeks to smash bugs, improve stability, and polish the game."
In the time since the tweet, Amazon Game Studios' PR has reached out to us with update that shows even more impressive playtime: according to its latest data, the playtime was actually over 25 million hours — much more than its initial estimates.
New World's microtransactions were recently datamined, giving us an insight into Amazon's monetization strategy going forward. As best as we can tell from the data, Amazon Game Studios is following through on its promise not to sell in-game boosts until 2022.
This is the fourth New World release date delay to date. The first delay was all the way back in April 2020 and pushed the game's launch to August 2020. Then, it was delayed to 2021 in July 2020 and finally pushed back to its August 31 release date earlier this year. Now, it's been delayed again, hopefully for the last time.
When is the New World Release Date?
The New World release date is now September 28, 2021, according to a tweet on the game's official account, effectively pushing back the launch of this upcoming PC MMORPG by roughly a month.
"This was not an easy decision to make," the tweet concluded. "We know this isn't the first time we've changed our launch date in pursuit of quality, and that it can be disappointing to wait a bit longer. But we want to be sure we deliver you the highest quality game possible at launch. Thank you for your support and feedback. We're listening. We'll see you in Aeternum."
The Closed beta has ended, but you can still grab yourself a copy of the game in prep for its launch late next month by buying New World for PC on Amazon or on Steam for $39.99 or your regional equivalent.
