Gearbox and 2K have announced that a new Tales from the Borderlands game is in development and will launch sometime in 2022.
The Borderlands franchise is best known for its long-running series of first-person shooters, but that's not all these games are about. Aside from the recent release of the spinoff Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, Gearbox partnered with Telltale Games to dip its toe into the adventure genre with Tales from the Borderlands.
While Tales from the Borderlands was a pretty great game in its own right, it had a bit of a rough time due to Telltale Games shutting down in 2019 -- the first game was delisted from digital storefronts and only made its return two years later. Now, a brand-new game in this sub-franchise is on the way.
"New adventure, new characters, new tales," read a tweet from Gearbox. "An all NEW Tales from the Borderlands is coming in 2022 from Gearbox and 2K."
When is the New Tales from the Borderlands Release Date?
The new Tales from the Borderlands release date will be sometime in 2022. A more specific release date has not yet been announced.
Interestingly, Gearbox Software announced that it is fully acquiring Lost Boys Interactive earlier today, the developer who helped make Tiny Tina's Wonderlands a reality. It's unclear if this new team will focus solely on Tiny Tina's Wonderlands or if it has been contributing to this new project.
There's still a lot we don't know about this new entry in the Tales from the Borderlands franchise. Platforms have not yet been announced, but it's a pretty safe bet that it will probably launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. A release on Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS is a little less likely, but not impossible -- after all, it's not like an adventure game is going to have the same kind of technical requirements as an intense first-person shooter like Borderlands 3.
For now, there's not much to do other than wait for more details to come out about the new Tales from the Borderlands game. If you haven't yet played the original, you can buy the first Tales from the Borderlands for PC and consoles starting at $19.99 or your regional equivalent.
