New Steam About Page Details the Platform's Many Features

A new Steam About page has launched, detailing the many features on offer from Valve's own digital distribution client. Steam has been around for over 15 years and a lot has changed in that time. What began as a platform for keeping Valve's own products up to date has evolved into one of the biggest (if not the biggest) digital distribution clients in the world today. The platform certainly does a lot and Valve has put together a new page that talks about all of its features.

The top of the Steam About page now shows how many people are currently logged onto Steam and how many of those people are playing a game. (At the time of writing, over 11 million accounts are online and nearly 3 million people are playing games.) Scroll down a bit and you'll see an enticing prompt to browse the storefront that has nearly 30,000 games. The page continues on, highlighting the Steam Community, Steam Hardware, and how to release a game of your own on the platform.

Finally, nine features are highlighted with short descriptions to give you a broader picture of what the Steam client has on offer. Social and community features, controller support, and the ease of making purchases from anywhere in the world are among the features highlighted on this final portion of the page. The page ends with one of several prompts to download the client for yourself.

The new Steam About page is clearly an improvement over the older version. It has a lot more information and should be well-equipped to give the layperson a better idea of what they can do with Steam. This is just one more improvement to Valve's digital distribution service, although every change doesn't always mean the addition of new features—Valve recently announced that they would be scaling back the platform's video offerings and if you look as of now there is no more video section. You can check out the page for yourself at store.steampowered.com/about.

What do you think about the new Steam About page? Do you feel that there is any critical information that is missing? Do you think this is what the long-fabled Steam UI overhaul will look like? Let us know in the comments below!
