A new The Sims 4 update has arrived a few days prior to the launch of the Paranormal Stuff Pack, laying the groundwork for the spooky new additions making their way to the game early next week.

The Sims 4 is big on post-launch content; this includes "Expansion Packs," "Game Packs," and "Stuff Packs," each of which adds varying levels of new content to your gameplay experience. A brand-new Stuff Pack will arrive in just a few short days and the developers have released a new patch to lay the foundation while also making some fixes to some of the game's existing issues.

New The Sims 4 Update Adds 'Scared' Emotion

The major addition to The Sims 4 update  1.70.84.1020 — that's 1.37 on consoles — is the new "Scared" emotion. As one might guess, this was added to the game in order to prepare for the upcoming scary content with the Paranormal Stuff Pack.

Sims can now get "Scared" by various things in the game and this emotion can escalate to "Terrified" if things get really bad. Your virtual people can calm themselves down in varying ways such as by hiding under the covers or screaming like a madman. Some buffs from earlier packs are being updated to add support for the Scared and Terrified emotional states, too.

Another neat addition in this update is Razer Chroma support for PC. The lighting on your Razer devices will reflect the moods of your selected Sims, the world you're playing in, and more. It should be noted, however, that you're going to need a compatible Razer device (no Single Zone Chroma RGB Lighting support, unfortunately), the game on Windows, and Razer Synapse installed.

This new The Sims 4 update is also fixing various issues in the game's existing content; one such example is a return of the ability to opt-out of Fame in the options menu. You can read about all of the changes arriving in today's patch in The Sims 4 update 1.70.84.1020 patch notes.

The Sims 4 Paranormal Stuff Pack release date is January 26, 2021. That's next week! As with other Stuff Packs, you'll be able to buy it for $9.99 or your regional equivalent.

For now, you can buy The Sims 4 on PC and consoles starting at $39.99 or your regional equivalent to get started with the game.
