Nintendo Switch Online's service grants subscribers NES games every month. Nintendo even went as far as to release NES controllers which connect to the Switch console itself. Now, players might be adding a new set of controllers (and games) to their Switch arsenal, if a new patent submitted by Nintendo for SNES controllers is any indication.
One eagle-eyed user on the Resetera forums noticed that Nintendo submitted an FCC ID filing. In the documents, we can see the back of a seemingly wireless SNES controller. The user, Link83, also says "The photos etc are confidential until next year..." This would indicate that this SNES controller comes out next year. Expanded Virtual Console support for the Nintendo Switch would also support a rumor from earlier this year.
It's easy to guess that SNES games for Nintendo Switch Online - or even some sort of true Virtual Console - is on the way along with this patent. Documents also reveal that this controller would use Bluetooth, which would be expected for a Nintendo Switch controller of this type. If you would like to look at the documents, here is a link.
In the meantime, if you're looking for your retro fix, this month's Nintendo Switch Online NES games are soon available. Kung-fu Heroes and Vice: Project Doom are available on August 21st, 2019 for those who subscribe to the Switch's online service.
Although we're not likely to hear more about the new controller any time soon, stay tuned for when more details transpire.
