Another Octopath Traveler II character trailer has been released, this time focusing on the final pair of playable party members: Ochette the Hunter and Castti the Apothecary. The trailer shows off their abilities and storylines, as well as going into some detail about how character stories will work in the game.
First, we get a look at Ochette, the bubbly and charismatic hunter. She seems quite different from H'aanit, the Hunter from the first game; she's scrappy and impulsive, and her abilities reflect that. She can use her monster companions to provoke townspeople into fighting her, and she can recruit friends using food, having them accompany her on her travels. She's also capable of capturing monsters and using them in battle.
The second character the trailer shows off is Castti, the Apothecary. She suffers from that most RPG of diseases, amnesia, having been discovered at sea with no memories and nothing to her name other than apothecary skills and a satchel. Castti can get information from townspeople and can also send them to sleep with one of her concoctions, which she can also brew in battle for both damage and support purposes.
Square Enix also gives us a look at Octopath Traveler II's Travelers' Tales, which are how you'll experience the story of the game. Each character's story has a different structure; in the thief's story, for instance, you must pick which of two targets to assassinate first, while Ochette can choose which companion she wants to accompany her.
You'll also encounter sidequests as you play, giving you a chance to wander off the beaten path a little. Some of these quests, called Crossed Paths, will have your characters interacting with one another. The lack of interaction between party members was a point of criticism for many in the first Octopath Traveler, so it'll be interesting to see how Square Enix implements this system in the sequel.
Octopath Traveler II is due out for PC, PlayStation consoles, and Nintendo Switch on February 24th.
