New Marvel's Avengers details were revealed today. The "WAR TABLE" presentation promised to show off some new content and a fair bit of backstory, and boy did it deliver. We've also learned that one of the main villains the Avengers will be facing is a very old face from Marvel comics: M.O.D.O.K.
Check out the new Marvel's Avengers details in the WAR TABLE presentation below:
The presentation opened with a brief introduction before jumping right into the action by showing us a level focused on Thor. Thor makes a rather amusing entrance, grabbing his magical hammer Mjölnir and charging into battle wearing a somewhat more casual outfit than we're used to.
Thor and some of the other Avengers end up fighting a bunch of robot enemies on top of a Helicarrier during an intense rainstorm in a mission titled "Once An Avenger."
We then learned a bit about how Thor will play as a character. He'll be able to use Mjölnir for ranged attacks. Of course, he can also decide to wade into battle and smack the crap out of bad guys in close quarters.
Regardless of the hero you play, it seems that there will be melee, ranged, aerial, and ground combat skills for each of the heroes. While each of the game's heroes will be different, players will have a decent variety of ways to play them. Gear, Perks, and Artifacts will further add to the customization choices for players.
I'm a B.A.D. G.U.Y.
One of the other new Marvel's Avengers details revealed today is who players will be heading up against. In this case, it's a throwback villain that I don't imagine very many people would have expected.
Dr. George Tarleton of Advanced Idea Mechanics (A.I.M.) was one of the many people negatively affected by A-Day. His obsession with destroying superpowered creatures led him to transform into M.O.D.O.K., or Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing.
HeliCarrier Has Arrived
The Chimera HeliCarrier will serve as your base throughout the game, whether you're playing single-player or multiplayer missions. Once a mission is chosen, you'll board a Quinjet and head out into battle against A.I.M.
This is not simply going to be a mission hub, mind. There are various different factions in the game like the Inhuman Alliance and the Resistance. Gaining faction reputation will unlock new missions, new shops, and other improvements for the Chimera Helicarrier.
We also learned a bit about Warzones. These multiplayer missions can be played with a team of friends, but you can also play it by yourself. The other players will be filled with your own heroes that you've already leveled-up and unlocked; even the single-player experience offers up a lot of fun.
These new Marvel's Avengers details have revealed a very ambitious game from Crystal Dynamics that promises to not only be a robust single-player experience but an ongoing multiplayer experience as well. The devs have also promised to continually add new content in the post-launch period, although how long that will last probably depends on the success of this game.
Do make sure to check out the full WAR TABLE presentation to see all of these fun new things in action. You'll be able to find out how this all plays out for yourself when Marvel's Avengers launches on September 4, 2020. You can find out more about the game (and put in a pre-order) at PlayAvengers.com, or you can simply add Marvel's Avengers to your wishlist on Steam.
