It's the beginning of a new month, so it's time for another Marvel Snap season to come upon us. Savage Lands, is this month's season it's taking us to prehistoric times with dinosaurs and cavemen, with the most notable dinosaur being the Smilodon Zabu who heads up this season pass. Players will gain access to Zabu if they purchase the season pass for $9.99.

Marvel Snap Zabu
Ability, "Ongoing: Your 4-Cost cards cost 2 less. (minimum 1)"

Zabu follows in the footsteps of the Silver Surfer and others as a possibly meta-defining card being included as the Season Pass exclusive. His ability lets you play two 4-cost cards on turn 4, giving you a big advantage in effective energy spend and your opponent is unable to directly counter it before you get that advantage (barring a rare exception or two). Some of the best cards in Marvel Snap cost 4 like Wong, Jubilee, Shang-Chi, Rescue, Enchantress, and Jessica Jones giving you a lot of power or cheap answers to power out there.

There will also be a Zabu Savage variant as part of the Season pass that you'll unlock for hitting rank 50 on the season. It's joined by another pair of Savage variants for Storm, and Kazar on the season pass. All of these are done by prolific artist Alex Horley, who will also be doing a bunch of other Savage variants this season including for She-Hulk, and Enchantress as he does over 10 variants this month. Avatars for Kazar, Storm, and Zabu will also be unlocked on the Season Pass, along with new card backs (one available to those on the free track), 3 titles (2 available on the free track), and your normal mixture of credits, gold, boosters, and mystery variants. Those mystery variants will have more to pick from as this month there will be over 20 new variants joining the game.

Zabu isn't the only new card you could see this month. Five new cards will join Series 5 throughout the month, though there's still no word from Second Dinner about when, or if cards will be demoted in rarity. First up this week is Silver Surfer coming tomorrow to series 5, making last month's Season Pass exclusive available to those who happen to be either extremely lucky or have hoarded tokens for him exclusively. Here's the list of the other cards coming throughout January:

  • January 10th: Sauron - 3 cost/3 power - ability "On Reveal: Remove the abilities from all Ongoing cards in your hand and deck."
  • January 17th: Shanna - 4 cost/2 power - ability "On Reveal: Add a random 1-Cost card to each location."
  • January 24th: Dazzler - 4 cost/4 power - ability "Ongoing: If you have 4 cards at each location, +6 Power."
  • January 31st: Shadow King - 4 cost/3 power - ability "On Reveal: Set all cards here to their original base Power."

As series 5 cards, don't expect to see them much at all, especially early on. They are going to be very rare to acquire, and cost a lot of the rarest currency in the game, tokens.

This month will also see five new locations joining the mix to ruin or make your day. In what seems to be an ongoing matter for Marvel Snap, more of these new locations constrain gameplay or your ability to play in a location, potentially creating some issues when multiple appear in a game or when a restricted one is featured.

Marvel Snap Savage Lands Season New Locations - Rickety Bridge, Altar of Death, Eternity Range, Plunder Castle, and Collapsed Mine

Here are the effects of the various locations:

  • Rickety Bridge: After each turn, if there is more than one card here, destroy them.
  • Altar of Death: When you play a card here, destroy it to get +2 Energy next turn.
  • Eternity Range: After turn 3, add a Rock to the losing player’s side.
  • Plunder Castle: Only cards that cost 6 can be played here.
  • Collapsed Mine: Fill this location with Rocks. Skip a turn to destroy your Rocks.

On their site, Second Dinner also revealed a couple of bundles we can expect this month, but neither of them is a replacement for the Sunspot bundle that just rotated out, nor is there a cost listed for them. The Primal Masterpiece bundle has variants of Sabretooth, White Tiger, and Kraven along with boosters and some credits, while the Dino Sized Bundle has a new Devil Dinosaur variant, boosters, and credits. Neither lists tokens as part of them either.

In their video released with the update, Second Dinner also talked a bit more about Battle Mode and confirmed it will be releasing it this month, as well as showing how it works. They shared new info about it will be coming in a few days, so stay tuned to TechRaptor as we'll keep you up-to-date on everything going on with Marvel Snap, and don't forget to pick up your holiday bonuses before they expire.
