Just yesterday afternoon Destiny patch 18.104.22.168 went live, decreasing the efficiency of farming in the infamous loot cave. Merely hours later, though, loot farmers are back in business after PS4Trophies released a YouTube video detailing another exploitable location in the game:
In Developer Notes on their website, Bungie had the following to say regarding loot farming:
The social experience of a cave farming run is amazing: the herding to get a team of Guardians all behind the line and firing in the right direction, the rush to grab the loot, the scramble when the panic wave starts, the beckoning glow from inside the cave. The speed at which the community organized around this activity was inspiring and humbling to us.
But shooting at a black hole for hours on end isn't our dream for how Destiny is played. Our hope is that social engagement in public spaces is only one part of the Destiny experience. Expect changes soon which decrease the efficiency of cave farming and correspondingly increase engram drops from completing activities.
While loot farming hasn't been a part of Bungie's vision for their game, it is apparent that players have embraced this method of earning engrams. For the uninitiated, engrams are colored crystals that can be converted into items and are purchased or earned by players for killing enemies or completing various activities within the game. PS4Trophies claim that the new loot 'location' (not actually a cave) has the same drop-rate and six second spawns of the previous loot cave. Time will tell whether Bungie acts to introduce a patch in an attempt to uphold their original vision for the game, or whether they cede this battle to the community.
