One of Horizon Forbidden West's new machines has been revealed by a Horizon Zero Dawn comic book. The Shellsnapper, a machine resembling a turtle, will make its debut in Titan Comics' Horizon Zero Dawn #4.
What is Horizon Forbidden West's Shellsnapper like?
The Shellsnapper, according to Titan Comics, is an amphibious machine capable of lying dormant for days or even weeks. It has an impenetrable shell which it allows to become covered in foliage, thus camouflaging itself against passing threats. Despite this behavior, the Shellsnapper is a colossal machine that easily dwarfs humans. You can check out the full appearance of the Shellsnapper via Horizon Zero Dawn #4's FOC (final order cut-off) cover. FOC essentially refers to a cut-off point after which retailers can no longer order items from publishers. It's often used to encourage retailers to buy more comics via limited-edition covers and other incentives. Here's the Shellsnapper in all its glory:
The Horizon Zero Dawn comic series is written by Horizon Zero Dawn scribe Anne Toole and illustrated by Raruurien webcomic artist Ann Maulina. It takes place after the events of the original Zero Dawn and follows protagonist Aloy and her ally Talanah, who must deal with a new threat which has appeared in the hinterlands. There are four other covers to collect for issue number 4, and although none of them depict any more machines from Forbidden West, they're all rather pretty in their own way.
When is Horizon Forbidden West coming out?
Guerrilla Games' upcoming Horizon Zero Dawn sequel Horizon Forbidden West is due to launch for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2021. Players will once again take on the role of Aloy as she travels across a post-apocalyptic USA on a mission to discover the source of a mysterious and deadly plague. The ecosystems in Forbidden West will be more diverse than those in Zero Dawn; it'll feature underwater exploration, tropical beaches, and ruined cityscapes, among other locations. It's not yet clear exactly how the Shellsnapper will fit into this world; you'll have to stay tuned for more info on the game to learn that.
