Today Genshin Impact developer HoYoverse revealed a new trailer showing off one of the new characters who will be made available with the first update of 2023.
The new character is Alhaitham, the Sumeru Akademiya's Scribe, and not surprisingly, it's all about words and the recording of history.
He will become available the day the new update launches in the Caution in Confidence wish alongside another new character, the diminutive Yaoyao.
Alhaitham is voiced by Nazeeh H. Tarsha in English, and Yuichiro Umehara in Japanese. You possibly know him for voicing Siegfried Kircheis in The Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These, Goblin Slayer in Goblin Slayer, Eugene Sevenstark in Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, Kasim Al-Fayed in The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki and Ira in Kingdom Hearts 3.
You can check out the trailer below alongside the Japanese version.
"Alhaitham never once believed that referencing records written in all languages would help one gain a comprehensive understanding of the world. However, this doesn't mean that he stops his contemplation, for a silent record is not the end of the search for truth, but a method to raise questions."
The new update, numbered 3.4 and titled "The Exquisite Night Chimes" comes on January 18. it also includes new outfits for Lisa & Kamisato Ayaka. Of course, you can expect our coverage about it to continue as the release date comes closer.
If you're unfamiliar with Genshin Impact, it's currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, iOS, and Android. A Nintendo Switch version has been announced a long time ago, but HoYoverse has gone under the radar with it and has not said anything since despite confirming multiple times that it hasn't been canceled. We'll have to wait and see if 2023 will finally be the year of Genshin on Nintendo's console.
