CCP Games has announced that a new free Eve Online expansion is in the works. The studio is currently celebrating its spacefaring MMO's 20th anniversary, and Viridian is just part of the celebrations for that event. It'll launch next month and will be free for all Eve Online players.
Despite launching 20 years ago, Eve Online is still going strong, with new spinoffs and strange crossovers indicating the strength of the game. To commemorate Eve Online's 20th anniversary, CCP has unveiled Viridian, the next major content expansion for the game and the first of two planned expansions this year.
According to creative director Bergur Finnbogason, Viridian will empower you with "more means and methods to help [your corporation] flourish". It'll build on last year's Uprising expansion and will include "new tools, personalization options and social-driven content", per the official announcement for the expansion.
Of course, that's not all that's going on for Eve Online's 20th anniversary. More celebrations will be held in the game throughout May, as well as "plenty more" throughout 2023. Events include an extended Capsuleer Day that will boast exclusive anniversary rewards, as well as a chance to etch your name onto a real-life Eve Online monument in Reykjavik. Not bad, eh?
The full celebrations for Eve Online's 20th anniversary also include an in-game fireworks display this Saturday, as well as new anniversary packs to buy in the store and much more. To put it simply, if you're an Eve Online fan, you won't want to miss the celebrations that CCP has planned for this momentous event. After all, as the studio itself says, Eve Online only turns 20 once!
You can download and play Eve Online right now for free on PC via Steam. The Viridian expansion will launch sometime in June and will be free for all players, so make sure to check that out once it lands.
