The Tarnished faces off against an imposing enemy in Elden Ring

Bandai Namco has added some new Elden Ring info to the game's official website. This new information reveals some details about Elden Ring's world, as well as its gameplay mechanics, environmental systems, and more.

What new Elden Ring info has been added to the website?

Towards the bottom of the official Elden Ring website, there's now a new section under the heading "Tarnished of the Lands Between". This section reveals that the player character is an outcast who has returned to the game's setting of the Lands Between to claim "the Elden Lordship promised to them by legend". The new text also teases encounters with the Demigods, who were once Lords belonging to "a royal and noble family" and who now reside in "vast legacies bristling with traps, secrets, and guardians".

The Tarnished battles a monstrous enemy in Elden Ring
Elden Ring sounds like it's going to offer plenty of what From Software fans adore.

There are also some fun tidbits about Elden Ring's gameplay mechanics in the new info. Bandai Namco says you'll be able to "try dozens of skills" and specialize in one that suits your playstyle, as well as engaging in stealth to skirt danger or catch enemies off their guard. Intriguingly, the studio promises the ability to "use the environment, the weather, and the time of day" to your advantage in combat, although it's not clear exactly how you'll be able to do so. You'll also get the chance to summon "familiar spirits" or fellow Tarnished to aid you in battle, all while delving into the complex backstory From Software and collaborator George R. R. Martin have crafted for Elden Ring. Cheekily, Bandai Namco also leans into the Souls series' unforgiving reputation; at the end of the new passage, the studio says that "you may die. But you will return to fight again. For that is how a champion - or a Lord - is born."

What is Elden Ring and when can you play it?

Elden Ring is the newest project from Dark SoulsBloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice director Hidetaka Miyazaki. The game was developed in collaboration with A Song of Ice and Fire writer George R. R. Martin, who contributed elements of the backstory and lore from which Miyazaki then constructed a story. Originally announced back at E3 2019Elden Ring fell silent for a couple of years before publisher Bandai Namco revealed the first official gameplay for the game at this year's E3 virtual event.

You'll be able to get your hands on Elden Ring when it launches for PC, PlayStation platforms, and Xbox consoles on January 22nd next year. We'll bring you more on this game as soon as we get it, but in the meantime, it's safe to start getting excited for what's shaping up to be another brutal From Software action RPG.
