Peter the Great (also known as Пётр Вели́кий to his friends) ruled the Tsardom of Russia and the Russian Empire in the halcyon days of the late 1600's. Through war, Peter the Great managed to expand Russias empire far beyond its original borders. His leadership chimed in a prosperous and interesting time for the Russian people, and his many political reforms still have a lasting impact on Russia today. His leadership also kickstarted the rise of secular education in Russia and under his reign Russia quickly modernized.
Peter's Unique Ability is the 'Grand Embassy', which gets you extra culture and science if you establish a trade route with a more advanced civ.
Russia's ability gives Russia extra territory when they found a new city and get extra faith and production from tundra tiles within their borders.
Russia's Unique Unit is the iconic Cossack. These mounted soldiers had many roles in Russia during Peter's time, serving as soldiers, guides, and guards. They were also instrumental in repelling Napoleon's invasion forces during the Patriotic War, a tour de force that was praised by Napoleon himself. These soldiers were usually armed with sabers and spears and were used as a supplement in any capacity that had need of their talents. In Civilization VI, Cossacks are a more powerful replacement of the cavalry units and can move after they've attacked.
Russia's Unique District is the Lavra which is a type of monastery used by Orthodox Christians and is a series of caves and churches that became a spiritual center for Russian Orthodox Christians. In Civilization VI this tile improvement automatically expands your city's cultural borders by one tile when you use a Great Person's ability in a city that has a Lavra.
Russia is perfect for players who like to play as wide as possible, and the Cossack unit is capable of quickly getting in and out of combat range for relatively low-risk military encounters.
