A new Castlevania game is in development right now, but it's not quite what you may have been hoping for. Titled Castlevania: Moonlight Rhapsody, this upcoming collaboration with Konami is being developed by Chinese company Shengqu Games and targeting a mobile release for that country.

As best as we can tell, this may have been the "Codename C" technical test that popped up online late last year; go ahead and give it a watch:

Now, Niko Partners Senior Analyst Daniel Ahmad revealed the new Castlevania game in a tweet. This new entry in the franchise will be a side-scrolling action game that's scheduled to go into testing in China sometime this year.

Unfortunately, those of you hoping for a new release on PC and consoles are sure to be disappointed. Based on the official news release, this is going to be starting off as a mobile game in China. While some mobile games can manage decent RPG and action gameplay, this new title might not have the robust feature set as previous entries in the franchise.

This isn't the franchise's first venture into mobile-first gaming, either. A game called Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls debuted on mobile in the West, but it will ultimately shut down after less than one year in operation.

That said, the official news states that players will be able to change their weapons, choose from a number of different heroes, and freely explore the map. It looks like this game will be more Castlevania than not.

Will the New Castlevania Game Moonlight Rhapsody Come to the West?

One question that comes to mind is whether or not we'll even be able to play this new Castlevania game in the West. It may seem unlikely at first, but this particular developer does have a history with eventual Western releases.

If you weren't aware, Shengqu Games is the same company that published Fallout Shelter Online. This game was an exclusive release to China at first, but it eventually made its way to the West. Considering the wild popularity of Castlevania (especially with the continuing Netflix series), we may well get to play this new Castlevania game sometime in 2021 or 2022.

What do you think of the look of the new Castlevania game Moonlight Rhapsody? Do you think it will live up to its forebears? Let us know in the comments below!
