Thanks to a rather snazzy cinematic trailer, we finally got the Diablo IV release date we've been waiting for back in December. If you loved the trailer that accompanied the announcement, then you'll be pleased to know Blizzard has released a new deep dive video which goes into some of the lore behind the trailer.

During December's Game Awards ceremony, the Diablo IV release date was announced to be June 6th. Blizzard released a cinematic trailer to mark the announcement, one that focused prominently on Diablo mainstays Lilith and Inarius, both of whom will play a central role in the game.

Now, Blizzard has released a brand new video in which Diablo community lead Adam Fletcher talks to Diablo 4 director Joe Shely and associate director Joseph Piepora. The three of them discuss who Lilith and Inarius are, the role they will play in Diablo IV, and what the characters' motivations are. The new video is age-restricted, so we can't embed it here, but you can check it out over on YouTube.

Inarius and Lilith will figure heavily in the plot of Diablo IV.

In the world of Diablo, heaven and hell are constantly locked in battle. When Inarius and Lilith grew sick of this state of affairs, they created the world of Sanctuary, which is where humans live. Although Inarius has been depicted numerous times in Diablo games, Blizzard says Diablo IV is the first time you'll truly get to see him in action. The Game Awards cinematic shows Inarius exhibiting his power, spreading snakelike angel wings across a massive army and impaling several demons on those wings as well.

We also get to see Lilith commanding an army of Fallen, the hellish demons that scatter at the righteous sound of Inarius' energy pulse. Fletcher says that there's "a lot more to reveal" regarding the story of Inarius, Lilith, and the world of Diablo, and we'll get to learn more about that story and the game's world over the next couple of months.

Diablo IV launches for PC, PlayStation consoles, and Xbox platforms on June 6th.

Activision Blizzard has been heavily criticized over allegations of toxic workplace culture and sexual harassment. These criticisms have come from several U.S. state treasurers, the heads of both PlayStation and Xbox, and a group of activist shareholders, among many others. The company is also embroiled in lawsuits, unionization disputes with staff, and conflicts with government agencies.
