A brand new trailer for the upcoming Blair Witch game has just been released, and we finally get to see some of the gameplay in-depth. The new trailer was released at the game clips and tips YouTube channel and shows off some of the narrative elements, as well as the gameplay and canine companion. Blair Witch is another first-person psychological horror game from Bloober Team, the same minds behind the Layers of Fear series, as well as 2017's Observer starring the late Rutger Hauer. Blair Witch marks the first time that the company will have developed a game based on a licensed property, instead of their own original IP.
One of the elements given the most attention in the new trailer is the canine companion 'Bullet', who comes into play throughout a lot of the footage shown. It appears that you can order him to seek out different things, as well as digging up clues in certain spots and following you around as you command him. The gameplay also appears to feature a video camera with night vision, similar to Outlast, which will be used to see your way through dark areas without a torch, as well as to explain the narrative through the medium of literal found footage.
While the gameplay was a big focus of the new Blair Witch trailer, it also took the opportunity to fill in some sporadic details about the story and characters. It seems that our protagonist, Ellis, has gone searching through the woods to try and find a missing person. He has someone back home, called Jess, who calls him up to check on him throughout the game, even after things take a turn for the dark. You can check out the trailer for the game below. Blair Witch will be released August 30th for Xbox One and PC.
