In a press release, Ubisoft has announced that the upcoming DLC Campaign for Assassin's Creed Unity, Dead Kings, will be releasing on the 13th of January on Xbox One and PC, while releasing on PlayStation 4 on the 14th. Dead Kings will be free to anyone who owns the game on Xbox One, PC, or PlayStation 4.
The DLC will take place after the main story campaign of Assassin's Creed Unity, and players will once again wear the mark of the Assassin's Creed as Unity protagonist Arno Dorian.
From the official press release:
After the events of Assassin’s Creed Unity, Arno leaves Paris for Saint Denis, a mysterious city that holds the crypts of deceased French kings. Sent on a mission to the extensive underground of the Basilica, Arno will face a faction of new foes, the Raiders, populating its catacombs. Equipped with a lantern and a new powerful weapon, the Guillotine gun, Arno will have to navigate the dangerous passageways to uncover the darkest secrets of the city.https://www.youtube.com/v/GTBusekcd54&feature=youtu.beIn addition to a fully-fledged main single-player campaign, Assassin’s Creed Unity - Dead Kings also offers new open world activities and side missions, including new Murder Mysteries, enigmas and cooperative missions. Both single-player and cooperative modes enable players to unlock new weapons, gear and outfits that carry over between Assassin’s Creed Unity and Assassin’s Creed Unity - Dead Kings.
Assassin's Creed Unity is perhaps the most ambitious Assassin's Creed game to date, however it was met with massive controversy when it launched in November last year. With a late review embargo (set after the official release of the game), Assassin's Creed Unity released with a myriad of bugs and serious framerate issues.
The single player campaign also featured microtransactions, which also stirred up controversy among consumers. The whole situation was quite damaging to Ubisoft (Who had a pretty bad year in 2014, also gaining infamy around the release of Watch_Dogs, for example), and in an effort to save a sinking ship, Ubisoft cancelled their Season Pass for AC: Unity, promising the planned DLC to consumers at no extra charge. Those who had already purchased the Season Pass were offered a free game instead, in exchange for signing an agreement stating they wouldn't try to sue Ubisoft.
It's also worth noting that AC Initiates, the wiki and companion app for Assassin's Creed Unity, is still down for "holiday maintanance"...
