The Nether update for Minecraft: Java Edition

The Nether update for Minecraft: Java Edition is now live. This update adds a bunch of new content including extra biomes, new creatures, and new materials. It's worth noting that Java Edition is the original PC version of the game, not the newer one available on the Windows Store and consoles.

There's a whole bunch of new stuff in the Nether update for Minecraft: Java Edition. By travelling through "familiar, fiery wastes", you'll be able to explore new biomes. These include the Basalt Deltas, remnants of volcanic eruptions filled with flowing flakes of ash, and the Crimson Forest, a woodland lit by eerie bioluminescent fungi. There's also the Soulsand Valley, an open area made mainly of soul sand, soul soil, and basalt pillars, plus plenty of skeletons. If you dig your way through these new biomes, you'll find material titled "Ancient Debris", which Microsoft assures us is "totally not Netherite".

What else is in Minecraft: Java Edition's Nether update?

The Nether update for Minecraft Java Edition contains plenty of skeletons to fight.

In addition to the new biomes, Microsoft and the Minecraft dev team are also adding new creatures to the game via the Nether update. Hoglins and Piglins will come at you in hordes, but are "pretty cool if you bring some bling", according to the official patch notes. If you're looking to start a fight with the new creatures, the devs recommend you don't use your regular bed and instead gain access to a respawn anchor. There's an absolute ton of other stuff to check out in the Nether update for Minecraft: Java Edition, so make sure you take a look at the full patch notes for a complete list of changes and additions.

It's worth remembering here that Minecraft: Java Edition updates also make their way to the Bedrock edition. If you're not playing the Java version of the game you shouldn't have too long to wait - the update is scheduled for today for that platform, too. In the meantime, you can buy Minecraft: Java Edition right here.
