Netflix has penned deals to produce original anime content with three Japanese animation studios. One of the studios, Sublimation, will produce an anime based on Capcom's action RPG Dragon's Dogma.

Much like the video game, the Dragon's Dogma anime series will focus on the Arisen. This is a person who loses their heart to a dragon. Although players could originally choose the gender of their character, the protagonist of the anime will be male. Sublimation and Netflix describe the anime as "an action adventure about a man challenged by demons who represent the seven deadly sins of humans". How this aspect relates to the original plot of the game - or whether it does at all - is currently unclear.

Along with Sublimation, Netflix has also signed deals with Anima and David Production. With Anima, the American streaming giant will produce Altered Carbon: Resleeved, an animated spin-off of Netflix's live-action Altered Carbon series. All we know is that it'll "explore new elements of the story mythology", according to Netflix and Anima. David Production, meanwhile, will be working on an anime adaptation of Hiroshi Takashige's manga SPRIGGAN. The manga series is about alternate histories and ancient relics, so expect the anime to follow suit.

These partnerships follow two previously announced Netflix deals with animation studios Production I.G. and bones. The former will produce Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, which will arrive sometime in 2020. bones will work on an adaptation of Mark Millar's heist comic Supercrooks. We're not sure when any of these shows will land on Netflix, with the exception of Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045.

Dragon's Dogma originally released on Xbox 360 and PS3 back in 2012. An expansion pack, Dark Arisen, released in 2013. Versions for PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch followed, each of which bundled in the DLC and made technical and visual improvements to the original game.
