A followup to cult JRPG The World Ends With You has been announced. Neo: The World Ends With You follows a new cast of characters as they participate in a new Reapers' Game in Shibuya. It'll launch for PS4 and Nintendo Switch next year.
What can we expect from Neo: The World Ends With You?
This news comes to us via a new trailer uploaded to the Square Enix YouTube channel. The trailer is entirely in Japanese, but it does have English subtitles. New characters Rindo, Fret, and Nagi must navigate a brand new Reapers' Game masterminded by the rather fetching Shiba. Otherwise, it looks like business as usual; a super-stylized version of Shibuya to explore, kinetic combat, and punchy anime-style comic book narrative cutscenes. You can check out the trailer right here:
Gameplay-wise, Neo: The World Ends With You looks to have made a few changes. Exploration and combat now take place in a fully 3D environment rather than the 2D look of the original. It's hard to draw conclusions from this trailer, which is more of an overview than a deep dive, but it looks like TWEWY staples like pins and the ability to read Shibuya residents' thoughts will make a return. Boss battles look suitably epic and large-scale, with plenty of city-destroying attacks to dodge and counter.

We'll likely learn more about Neo: The World Ends With You in the coming weeks and months. The game will launch for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in summer 2021. Until then, you can keep an eye on its official website for more news and tidbits.
