The next iteration of the Need for Speed series has finally been unveiled. Need for Speed Unbound is coming to PC and current-gen consoles this December, and it's had a pretty drastic visual rework, taking its cues more from anime than from realistic street racing.

It looks like the rumors were true: Need for Speed Unbound is indeed a current-gen release, so it's not coming to PS4 or Xbox One (or Switch, for that matter), and it will indeed have anime elements. This new Need for Speed game is a more stylized, less realistic take on the franchise, and what's more, it prominently stars rapper A$AP Rocky too. You can take a look at the reveal trailer here to see Need for Speed Unbound's new look.

According to EA, Need for Speed Unbound, which is being developed by Burnout creator Criterion, sees you taking on weekly challenges to work your way up to The Grand, the "ultimate street racing challenge" in the city of Lakeshore. As this is a Need for Speed game, you can, of course, expect the chance to fine-tune your cars, as well as the ability to change up your character's style. If you're not into all that, though, the game looks like it'll offer plenty of high-octane, high-speed racing fun as well.

A$AP Rocky's presence in the game isn't just a marketing ploy, either; it looks like he'll feature pretty prominently as a personality in Need for Speed Unbound. He's even got his own signature car, a Mercedes 190E emblazoned with his "Always Strive and Prosper" motto. Even if you're not a fan of Rocky's music, though, EA is promising a "vibrant global soundtrack" that takes in music from all corners of the world, so you should find something to love.

Need for Speed Unbound launches for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via both Steam and the Epic Games Store on December 2nd. You can pre-order it right now via the official website if you're so inclined.
