The narrative adventure Pendragon is planning on launching in the summer of 2020 and the developers want to add in a bit of fluff. That's where you come in: inkle Ltd is looking for your best medieval campfire stories and you could score a copy of the game if they use it.
If you're unfamiliar with Pendragon, it's a turn-based strategy game with a focus on the narrative. In a sense, it looks a bit like playing out the arcs of a story on a chessboard. And if it isn't obvious from the name, this upcoming game focuses on King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
A nice bonus of this style of gameplay is the replayability factor. Your decisions will move and change the various narrative threads, so no two playthroughs are likely to be the same. Now, the developers are looking to flesh out its content a bit and you
How Your Stories Can Get You a Free Copy of Pendragon (and More)
The process to submitting your own campfire stories is pretty simple:
- Create a 500-ish word lightly-interactive campfire tale using Ink that's appropriate for the setting. Make it about the narrative and not about the technical complexity.
- Submit the ink file to the developers.
And that's pretty much it! You'll have to follow some basic story-crafting guidelines, but it's a relatively simple process overall. If your story is selected, you'll get paid £40 (≈$49.75) and you'll get a free copy of the game to boot. Your name will also be listed in the credits for your contribution.
You will, of course, have to give up your rights to use this story within the context of the game and you won't get any additional royalties beyond the initial payment. That said, inkle is only concerned about the usage within the game — if you manage to turn your campfire story into, say, a Hollywood blockbuster, that's entirely your prerogative.
