Wuchen, the new hero in the latest Naraka: Bladepoint update

A new Naraka: Bladepoint update has been announced for tomorrow. It's bringing mystical new hero Wuchen, as well as extra map areas, new limited-time gameplay modes, and plenty of balance updates to weapons and performance.

What's coming in this new Naraka: Bladepoint update?

First up, you're getting new "Mystical Daoist" hero Wuchen. He represents the third major addition to the Naraka: Bladepoint roster; water dragon Valda Cui was added back in September 2021, followed by the Chinese history-inspired Yueshan in November. Wuchen is a zippy sword user with plenty of ferocious combos to master; he's mostly close-range, but definitely has some long-range tools to help him out of a bind as well. If you like getting up close and personal with your enemies, it looks like Wuchen will be your jam.

Although new Naraka: Bladepoint hero Wuchen is mostly close-range, he has some long-range tools as well.

As well as Wuchen, you're also getting two new areas in the map: Breezy Maze and Dragonspine Yard. You'll have to head into a game of Naraka: Bladepoint to discover what they look like. There's also lots of new "architecture and natural landscapes" dotted around the map, so be sure to take a look at those. Two new limited time modes are also making a return in the form of Shadow Surge and Eternal Blazes, although they've had a number of tweaks to improve their gameplay experience somewhat. Who knows? These could be two of the modes 24 Entertainment is considering making permanent.

You'll also be able to check out two limited-time events, in which you'll have the chance to obtain cosmetics and other items. The Spring Festival Greeting lets you greet one of the four Divine Beasts for the chance to get new outfits, while the Spring Vitality event could net you high-grade rewards and Firecrackers. There's also the Nature of Taoism event, in which you can get in-game rewards by obtaining Spirit Charms as quest rewards. There are also several new balance changes to weapons, quests, and game performance, to name but a few. It's well worth reading the full Naraka: Bladepoint patch notes to get a sense of what's changed.

What is Naraka: Bladepoint?

Naraka: Bladepoint is a melee-focused battle royale-style multiplayer combat game. It's got an aesthetic inspired by Far Eastern mythology and a focus on close-quarters combat and traversal mechanics. Developer 24 Entertainment's game launched back in August last year, with a roster of seven heroes continually being expanded by updates. In late 2021, Naraka: Bladepoint introduced its first collaboration, teaming up with the estate of late martial arts legend Bruce Lee to bring his digital likeness to the game.

You can grab Naraka: Bladepoint on PC right now. It's available either via Steam or via the Epic Games Store. Rather unusually for a battle royale game, it's not free-to-play; you'll need to pay $19.99 to get it, but after that, there's no subscription fee, of course. We'll bring you more on further updates to this game as soon as we get it. In the meantime, make sure you're not playing between 6pm and 10pm EST tonight, as that's when the servers are going down to apply the update.
