A cute new turtle Pokemon is being teased as part of the upcoming Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC. It'll be related to the Legendary Pokemon Terapagos, although it's not entirely clear how just yet, and it was first revealed in the second episode of the anime Pokemon Horizons: The Series.

In February, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company revealed The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, a two-part DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. As part of that reveal, we got a first look at the crystalline turtle Pokemon Terapagos, and now, a new Pokemon related to Terapagos is being teased. Is it the first stage of evolution for Terapagos? Perhaps an alternate form? We're not sure just yet.

One thing we do know is that the anime series Pokemon Horizons premiered in Japan recently (it's set to release around the world later in 2023), and the new Pokemon was teased there, too. In the series, the mysterious turtle Pokemon appeared before Liko, who wears a hexagonal necklace reminiscent of Terapagos' shell.

This turtle is going to be pretty important in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, it seems.

Hexagons seem pretty important in Scarlet and Violet; they can also be seen under the crowns of Terastallized Pokemon, and there's an illustration in the Scarlet or Violet Book (depending on your version) that looks a lot like Terapagos' shell design, too. It's likely we'll have to wait until the DLC launches to know the full significance of this motif.

We may not be able to watch Pokemon Horizons in the West (officially) yet, but to drum up hype for the series in Japan, The Pokemon Company recently took over some of the screens outside Shibuya Station to show ads for the series. The ads showed some of the 'mons that will be appearing in the new anime, like a shiny Rayquaza, the Paldea starters, and Pikachu. We can only hope the show is marketed with the same pizazz when it makes its way to our shores.

Pokemon Horizons is due to air in the West sometime in 2023, and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero is set to launch later this year as well. In the meantime, make sure to take a look at our Pokemon Scarlet and Violet guides so that you're ready for the DLC to drop!
