Two new MultiVersus characters have been announced alongside an open beta date for the upcoming platform fighter. The Iron Giant, Taz the Tasmanian Devil, and Velma have all been announced for the game's roster, and you'll be able to try them out this July.
What do we know about the new MultiVersus characters?
In a new trailer, Warner Bros. Games unveiled the three new MultiVersus characters joining the roster in time for the open beta. They weren't included as part of the original roster leaks last year, so this is the first we're hearing of their inclusion. The trailer shows several of the game's characters duking it out, at which point Taz arrives in his characteristic tornado, quickly making friends with Harley Quinn. The two join the melee, after which Superman descends from the sky alongside the Iron Giant in a fun nod to Brad Bird's iconic movie. Velma is also there; she doesn't get a spot of her own, instead showing up in the group shot at the end. You can check out the trailer right here.
When is the MultiVersus beta happening?
According to a Warner Bros. Games press release, the MultiVersus beta is happening this July, although we don't have a specific date for it yet. If you want to check out MultiVersus before then, though, there's also a closed alpha happening later this week, which you can sign up for via the official website. It's worth remembering that signing up doesn't mean you'll be selected, though; closed alpha places are limited. The closed alpha will offer 15 playable characters across seven maps, as well as several different modes to check out. We don't yet know if this will be the extent of the content available in the open beta or if more will be added between now and then.
MultiVersus is an upcoming platform fighter created by Warner Bros. Games and developer Player First Games. Originally announced in November last year, it's a Super Smash Bros-esque fighting game starring popular Warner Bros characters like Batman, Game of Thrones' Arya Stark, and Bugs Bunny, among others. Just like fellow platform fighter Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl (which just got new DLC of its own), more fighters will be added to the roster over time, but unlike Nick's offering, MultiVersus will be free-to-play.
The full game doesn't have a release date yet, but the open beta is scheduled for July, and you can sign up for the closed alpha right now. When MultiVersus does launch, it'll arrive on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. No launch for Nintendo Switch has been confirmed yet. We'll bring you more on this as soon as we get it.
