A stampede of riders in Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord

Take up your sword and saddle up your steed, for Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord rides to Early Access a touch...well...earlier than anticipated. The launch of TaleWorlds' medieval sandbox has been brought forward to March 30th at 10 am UTC. The devs have also released some new info about what to expect from Bannerlord's Early Access period.

If you pick up Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord at launch, you can expect a pretty rich vein of both single-player and multiplayer content. The new Campaign mode contains exactly the kind of experience you'd expect from Mount and Blade, but with an all-new storyline. That means you'll create a character, recruit warbands to fight with you, and explore the land of Calradia as re-envisioned by TaleWorlds. The campaign will feature a skill tree to invest in, equipment to gather, and a chance to master Bannerlord's new and improved combat mechanics. Should you wish to, you can, of course, ignore the campaign missions and simply reave as you please. Early Access for Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord will also come with a Custom Battle mode for you to set up your own skirmishes.

On the multiplayer side of things, Early Access will initially feature four modes: Skirmish, Captain, Team Deathmatch, and Siege. Those modes were featured in the game's recent multiplayer beta, so TaleWorlds is carrying them over to the Early Access version. The devs say they'll be routinely adding new features and game modes to Bannerlord's multiplayer mode. At launch, you won't be able to host your own private servers, but TaleWorlds say this is on the cards for "closer to the release of the game".

TaleWorlds has also spoken about how the coronavirus has affected its development process. The team for Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord was able to work from home, so the development and Early Access release of the game haven't been impacted too much. Still, TaleWorlds says it wants to consider the financial health of its customers in light of the crisis, so for the first two weeks of sale, Bannerlord will be on offer for 10% off. An additional 10% will be chopped off the price if you already own any previous Mount and Blade game. TaleWorlds says this will apply to "select digital stores", although it's not clear which stores they're referring to.
