The Mortal Shell: Rotten Autumn Update has arrived, debuting a new mini-quest, a brand-new Photo Mode, and an alternate boss fight soundtrack featuring the soothing sounds of the legendary death metal band Rotting Christ.

Mortal Shell is a brutal action RPG that made its debut on the Epic Game Store back in August. Much like Dark Souls, it puts players in a harrowing world filled with terrifying monsters. Things are about to get extra spooky with some brand-new Halloween content in the Rotten Autumn update — and that's not all that's new.

What's New in the Mortal Shell: Rotten Autumn Update?

The big centerpiece of the Mortal Shell: Rotten Autumn Update is a new mini-quest featuring Gorf, the gigantic toad seen in our header image. It looks like Gorf blasts players with some kind of funky gas, although we don't yet know what happens.

Some neat cosmetics are also arriving in this update. Players can now use ten new unique Shell Shades. These new cosmetics can be shown off in the game's new photo mode which offers several powerful options for players to create some truly epic screenshots.

Lest we forget, a new boss fight soundtrack is optionally available for players to enjoy. This soundtrack was put together by Rotting Christ, a death metal band that is pretty well-known in the scene. Rotting Christ previously provided the music for the game's release date trailer.

When is the Mortal Shell Steam Release Date?

Mortal Shell Steam release date has not yet been officially announced; however, the game's Steam Store page says that it will arrive in 2021. Epic Games Store exclusivity deals are typically for a period of one year, so we should expect to see the Steam release on or after August 18, 2021 (barring any delays).

For now, players with a bit of artistic flair can enter a new Photo Mode Competition. If you win the contest, you could see your photo featured in a limited print art book signed by the developers and shipped directly to you! For now, you can buy Mortal Shell on the Epic Games Store for $23.99, a 20% discount as part of the Epic Games Store Halloween sale. You can also add Mortal Shell to your wishlist on Steam.

Disclosure: Epic Games Store works with TechRaptor for affiliate partnership, and TechRaptor earns a small commission off purchases made from some links in this article.

I've had a controller in my hand since I was 4 and I haven't stopped gaming since. CCGs, Tabletop Games, Pen & Paper RPGs - I've tried a whole bunch of stuff over the years and I'm always looking to try more!
