When Square-Enix released the first trailer for the remake of their now legendary JRPG Final Fantasy VII, the fanbase wasn't happy. The remake seemed to focus more on real-time combat, as opposed to the original pure turn-based combat system or the hybrid Active Battle Time system where gauges filling in real-time dictate who gets to attack. This was a change that did not go over well with many fans of the original game. Throw in the announcement that the game will be released in several installments and what we're left with is a fanbase that is more than wary of the imminent remake of the PlayStation 1 classic.

Now details regarding the episodic structure have been released by producer Yoshinori Kitase in an interview in the latest issue of Game Informer and was reported by Gamespot. In this interview, Kitase expanded on the original announcement that the game will be released in several installments as opposed to one big game like the original,

It will essentially be a full-scale game for each part of the multi-part series. In XIII, each installment told the story from a different angle. It was kind of like approaching an unknown territory in a sense.
Kitase also notes that, while they are planning on taking some liberties with the story, they are the original creators of the lore. As such, any changes made to the story will be carefully considered and only implemented if this adds something worthwhile to the story.
We were the people who created it, so in that sense, we don't think anything is untouchable. That isn't to say we're changing everything!
What this comes down to is that Final Fantasy VII Remake will consist of multiple full-scale games. Technically, this means that the game is broken up in multiple chunks but each episode will roughly have the same runtime as the entire original version. The story might be changed in some respects to fit the current zeitgeist and the story will be expanded upon in some places to take advantage of more advanced hard and software that was not available to the developers when the original was in development.

There is as of yet no information as to when the remake makes its way to a screen near you.

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
