During the Future Games Show today, a world-exclusive gameplay trailer for a Morbid: The Seven Acolytes was shown.
Morbid is a top-down, action-RPG style game that seems reminiscent of Diablo and is described by the developers as "souls-like." The action and inventory is certainly similar to action-RPGs. At one point, however, it seemed slightly like ITTA with its use of bullets. Like ITTA also, much of Morbid's world seems dead and decaying.
Features include boss fights with fully orchestrated music, character customization options and upgrades, and perks.
Morbid is visually styled with pixelated art, and the entire game has a dark atmosphere. There's plenty of blood and bizarre enemies to hack-and-slash on. Settings include gothic backdrops like cemeteries, dark forests, and ruined villages. The developers describe it as "Lovecraftian horror and Cronenbergian gore." That's certainly an inspired combination.
The specific story has a doomsday drive to it. The player-character has trained her entire life to defeat the Seven Acolytes of the game's subtitle, and apparently, she is the last of her kind. Morbid: The Seven Acolytes will be launching for the PC, Switch, Xbox One, and PS4 later this year.

Quick Take: The most impressive part of the trailer to me is the art-style. I love seeing the pixelated visuals move so smoothly across the screen, especially in a dark, grim setting. So many different action-RPGs have 3D polygonal graphics, or are on the brighter and colorful side, which isn't bad, but it makes seeing a title like this in action all the more engaging.
