Capcom has announced that Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak sales have topped the 2 million mark. In order to celebrate this milestone, the studio is giving away two free item packs on Wednesday, so make sure you log into the game to grab them when they drop.
Why are Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak sales so high?
Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak launched on June 29th, and it's a pretty darn good expansion to what was already a pretty darn good game. It seems the Monster Hunter player base agrees, as Capcom has confirmed that Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak sales have hit 2 million in just under a week on sale. To thank players for picking up Sunbreak, Capcom is giving away two free item packs on July 7th. We don't yet know what will be in those item packs, but hey, it's free stuff, right?

Monster Hunter Rise itself has also performed pretty well, according to Capcom. The game has broken the 10 million sales barrier in the time since its March 2021 release, which Capcom attributes to the launch of a PC version and a bundle containing both the base game and Sunbreak. The two games together can't hold a candle to the combined sales of Monster Hunter: World, though, which has shipped 21 million copies across its lifetime (a figure that includes sales of the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition package, but doesn't include sales of the Iceborne expansion). Still, World has been on release since 2018, so Rise has some time to catch up with its bigger sibling.
What is Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak?
Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is, in Capcom's own words, a "massive premium expansion" for Monster Hunter Rise. It adds new monsters, areas, and quest ranks, as well as brand new hunting actions. Sunbreak also expands the game's story significantly, following the Hunter as they take on a mysterious new monster at the behest of a stranger who is new to Kamura. If you're a big Monster Hunter Rise fan, then you've probably already picked up Sunbreak, but given the amount of content it adds, it's definitely worth your time.

You can pick up Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak right now on PC and Switch, where it'll set you back $39.99. You'll need the base Monster Hunter Rise game in order to play it, but Capcom is also selling a bundle containing both Rise and Sunbreak, so check that out if you're new to the game.
