Fans of the Monster Hunter series probably remember how Capcom released monthly DLC packs for Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate in the west and the company has announced it will be adopting the same approach for Monster Hunter Generations. The details for the first month of DLC have been shared on the Capcom-Unity blog. This month's set of DLC includes a set of Universal Studios Japan armor for both regular hunters and Palicos, Mario and Luigi-themed outfits for Palicos, a Fairy Tail (anime) themed equipment set for Palicos, and more.

Something especially interesting about Capcom's announcement is the fact that anime collaboration equipment from the Japanese version of Monster Hunter Generations - Monster Hunter Cross - are retained in the western release of the game. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate replaced most of the licensed costumes in the west. Data miners already noticed that the licensed outfits existed in Monster Hunter Generations' code a few weeks ago although it's good to see some sort of confirmation that the datamine was correct and not merely legacy code. This makes Monster Hunter Generations without a doubt the definitive release, as Capcom is adding truly extra equipment such as an Okami-themed costume for Palicos and Fire Emblem collaboration equipment for hunters in this western release!

If you haven't already read our Monster Hunter Generations review, check it out! We gave the title a 9/10 - it's definitely a title that shouldn't be missed. Any 3DS owner should pick it up. We'll keep you up to date with Monster Hunter Generations' DLC release schedule going forward.

Quick Take

As I mentioned earlier in the article, it's great news to see previously Japan-exclusive collaborations coming to the west with Monster Hunter Generations. As unlikely as it might be, Capcom's announcement might help some especially hardcore Monster Hunter fans decide to move over to the western release. I know I was debating whether to play the western release after putting 100+ hours into Monster Hunter Cross!
