Minecraft Archaeology

Minecraft's major upcoming update 1.20 will include a brand-new Archaeology feature, and Mojang released a new trailer showing how it works.

Archaeology was originally announced at Minecraft Live in 2020 and then delayed but it's finally appearing in the game in the upcoming update, which doesn't yet have a name or a release window.

The feature prompts players to visit the ancient ruins in desert biomes desert biome and look for Suspicious Sand blocks. Once they find one, they can use the new Brush tool on it to reveal pottery shards or other objects. These shards have patterns on them and putting four of them together will create pots that "tell unique stories" and can be used to decorate player builds.

On top of that, you can also find Sniffer Eggs allowing you to bring back the extinct ancient mob, which will in turn sniff out seeds that can be used to grow decorative plants.

You can check out the trailer below.

If you're not familiar with Minecraft, it's a massively-popular sandbox game currently published by Microsoft following its acquisition of Mojang on pretty literally every platform with a chip inside. I'd list them for you, but I've honestly lost count. The latest major patch, The Wild Update, was released a few months ago, and we're still waiting for additional information on 1.20, which was introduced in October at Minecraft Live.

We're also waiting for its younger brother, Minecraft Legends, which isn't a sandbox game. Yet, it brings back the world, the characters, and the aesthetic for a charming action real-time-strategy game. It's coming for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on April 18, 2023. Of course, it'll also be included on Game Pass.
