Mojang has revealed Minecraft: Emerald Tycoon, a free downloadable map designed with mobile devices in mind and available for Minecraft Bedrock Edition on PC and consoles.
Minecraft is no stranger to creating strange new content — Mojang's April Fools jokes are always interesting. A brand-new free map was introduced today, and this one is not a joke: Razzleberries and GameMode One have teamed up to create the Minecraft version of a mobile tycoon game.
Minecraft: Emerald Tycoon is the First Free Map Made With a Mobile Focus
Minecraft: Emerald Tycoon is, at its core, much like the hundreds (or probably thousands) of tycoon games on the market. You'll collect Emeralds, set up stations to generate more, and use this currency to unlock more content.
To start, you'll be able to find a fair few Emeralds spread throughout the world. As with most tycoon games, that's just the start — you'll also be able to passively generate Emeralds to increase your income further. Players can also dive into mob arenas if they're looking for a bit more action.
What do you do with those Emeralds, though? Well, there happens to be a derelict village nearby and it's up to you to repair it. Improving this village, of course, is going to require you to spend some of those precious Emeralds.
As this article notes, Minecraft: Emerald Tycoon is the first map of a new initiative for creating content that works well on mobile devices. Console and Windows 10 players need not worry about missing out, though — this new map is playable on all platforms where you can get Bedrock Edition.
You can download Minecraft: Emerald Tycoon for Bedrock Edition for free right now via the Minecraft Marketplace. You'll need the game to play it, though, and you can buy Minecraft Bedrock Edition for PC, consoles, and mobile via its official website starting at $29.99 or your regional equivalent.
