The Minecraft Dungeons Howling Peaks DLC has been announced and is arriving later in December 2020. For now, players can look forward to the upcoming Minecraft Dungeons update bringing Apocalypse Plus Difficulty!

The Minecraft action RPG spinoff Minecraft Dungeons has been releasing a steady stream of content ever since it launched earlier this year; most recently, the developers revealed the Creeping Winter DLC. Now, the developers have announced the next piece of DLC, but that won't be coming until December — first, we'll get to play the much tougher Apocalypse Plus difficulty that arrives next week.

You can see what the developers have to say about the Minecraft Dungeons Howling Peaks DLC and Minecraft Dungeons Apolcalypse Difficulty in this new developer diary.

What's Coming in the Minecraft Dungeons Howling Peaks DLC?

The Minecraft Dungeons Howling Peaks DLC is an upcoming paid DLC for the game that was first announced at Minecraft Live. It will be set in a mountain environment and feature three new missions where players will be imperiled by stormy wins and challenging puzzles. Naturally, new gear will also be made available as part of this DLC.

Players will have new enemies to fight as well. Ravagers from Minecraft will happily be charging players off of the side of a cliff. "Wind Callers" will summon gusts of wind to knock you up into the air and inflict fall damage upon your landing. Also arriving is the Squall Golem, an enemy that stays inactive until the player activates a nearby crystal.

Of course, new animals will be arriving in this DLC, too. The Wooly Cow and Mountain Goats will be making their debut in this DLC. Mountain Goats are passive, but they'll charge at you if you attack them.

When is the Minecraft Dungeons Howling Peaks DLC Release Date?

The Minecraft Dungeons Howling Peaks DLC will arrive sometime in December 2020. No specific date has been announced.

Minecraft Dungeons Season Pass Will Add 4 Pieces of DLC

One might note that the "Hero Pass" for Minecraft Dungeons has already dropped its two promised pieces of content — how does the Minecraft Dungeons Howling Peaks DLC fit into this formula?

In short, it doesn't. The developers have announced that a new Minecraft Dungeons Season Pass is on the way, providing players with four new pieces of DLC content to enjoy. Howling Peaks will be the first of four new additions to the game; the other three pieces of content have yet to be announced.

What is Minecraft Dungeons Apocalypse Plus?

Minecraft Dungeons Apocalypse Plus is a new difficulty that will seriously challenge players. While the enemies will be a lot tougher, players can also score some much better gear if they can live up to the challenge.

Here is what you can expect to see in Minecraft Dungeons Apocalypse Plus difficulty according to the in-game description:

  • Enemies are ultra beefy and ultra punishing
  • Lots of enemies with powerful enchantments
  • Rewards are ultra good
  • Even more gear and artefacts available

This won't just be one difficult mode, though — Apocalypse Plus introduces twenty new threat levels to play at. Each additional threat level will have tougher enemies, but it will also have better gear to match.

When is the Minecraft Dungeons Apolcalypse Plus Release Date?

The Minecraft Dungeons Apocalypse Plus release date will be on October 26, 2020. The Minecraft Dungeons "Spooky Fall" event will be launching one day later on October 27, 2020.

If you don't yet own the game and you'd like to experience these new challenges for yourself, you can buy Minecraft Dungeons via the game's official website starting at $19.99. Bear in mind that you'll need to buy the Hero Pass and Season Pass to enjoy all of the extra content!
