Midnight Ghost Hunt by Vaulted Sky Games was shown off at this year's Guerrilla Collective, and it has quite the set-up.
The game is an online competitive experience that can be described as spooky hide-and-seek. You and your friends play as either Ghosts and Ghost Hunters with a haunted mansion as your map. While the Ghost Hunters look around the mansion armed with fantastical sci-fi weapons to take out the impish spirits, the Ghosts need to sneak around the mansion, possessing normal-looking objects to attack and hide from the Hunters.
It seems like an overly complicated twist on the super popular antics of Prop Hunt with a big mix of Ghostbusters and Scooby-Doo thrown in, but Midnight Ghost Hunt manages to change things when the clock strikes Midnight. If the mansion isn't rid of Ghosts when the clock strikes twelve, the hunted player teams get to turn the tide as they transform into powerful vengeful spirits. Now the Ghost Hunters have to be careful if they are going to survive these spectral attacks.
It is clear that Vaulted Sky Games is aiming for a casual party crowd when it comes to Midnight Ghost Hunt. The focus on cooperative gameplay with the Ghost Hunter team, the malicious glee of playing psychological mind games as Ghosts, schemes going to heck in a handbasket once the lights go out at midnight. There is plenty of potential here for late-night sessions of this with several friends and some drinks on hand. It also helps that the visual design is very sharp if this preview is anything to go by, threading a particular line between being dark and spooky while also being pulpy and campy with the Ghost Hunters shooting laser beams at medieval suits of armor.
Right now, Midnight Ghost Hunt is having an online alpha in July, and you can sign up for it right here.
