Middle Earth: Shadow of War Delayed Until October 10th

Developer Monolith have announced via their community forums that the upcoming open world action sequel Middle Earth: Shadow of War will be delayed until the 10th of October 2017. The game was initially announced for a release on August 22nd and has been pushed back to ensure that Shadow of War delivers the "highest quality experience." The developer still plans to showcase more of the game at this years E3, which is less than a week away.

The delay is perhaps not surprising when you consider just how much bigger in scope Shadow of War is when compared to it's predecessor Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. Monolith have previously announced that the game's RPG systems, the size of it's open world, the story, and the nemesis system will all be drastically expanded this time around. The Nemesis system in particular was given the spotlight recently, as we reported here, adding features such as the ability to conquer fortresses and install your own overlord, with potentially game changing benefits. This system and the unique situations it presented for individual players was one of the main reasons for the original game's enduring popularity. As such, it may be for the best that Monolith takes the time to ensure this expanded version lives up to expectations.

If you haven't managed to keep up with the steady stream of information that's been flowing on Shadow of War since it was officially announced, we've got you covered. Check out our previous articles on the gameplay, gear, and the Nemesis system on the links provided. As a quick outline for the uninitiated, Middle Earth: Shadow of War sees the return of heroes Talion and Celebrimbor from Shadow of Mordor. They've crafted a new Ring of Power and intend to use it to battle Sauron and his armies for the fate of Middle Earth. To do this, players will have to conquer regions and build an army of their own, which is where the revamped Nemesis system and the returning sword, bow, and stealth open world gameplay as Ranger Talion come into play.

Middle Earth: Shadow of War  is set to release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on the new release date of October 10th 2017. Give us your thoughts on the delay and your hopes for the upcoming title in the comments below!
