Microsoft Flight Simulator An-225

Microsoft has been very active in bringing back historical aircraft at least in the virtual skies of Microsoft Flight Simulator, but today's release is special: the Antonov An-225 "Mriya" has just been made available.

The real aircraft, which held records as the heaviest plane in the world and the one with the largest wingspan, was tragically destroyed exactly one year ago during the initial phase of Russia's criminal invasion of Ukraine.

Today, exactly one year later, the six engines of majestic cargo plane roar again as it flies once more in the virtual skies as another homage to the amazing resilience of the Ukrainian people.

This aircraft wasn't just important a symbol for Ukraine, but it was relevant for many around the world. It was capable of airlifting loads that no other aircraft could carry, and it often flew humanitarian missions that would have been very challenging without its mighty wings.

Developed by veteran studio iniBuilds and announced less than a month ago, it's currently available in Microsoft Flight Simulator's official in-game store for $19.99 or €19.99 depending on where you live. All proceeds from the sale of this add-on will go to Antonov Corporation, which will use them to rebuild the real aircraft.

The package includes 7 liveries as follows.

  • Antonov Airlines "Be Brave Like Ukraine"
  • Antonov Airlines ‘2010’
  • Antonov Airlines ‘2008’
  • Antonov Airlines ‘2006’
  • White
  • Xbox Aviators Club
  • Aviators Club

It's worth mentioning that only the PC version of the simulator has received the aircraft today. Xbox users will have to wait until March 21 as it requires a feature that will be added with Sim Update 12 to work.

If you want to learn more, iniBuilds has opened a special FAQ section of its forums including the manual, a route guide, and more.

You can check out this majestic bird in the trailer below.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is currently available for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Cloud Gaming, including Game Pass. Full disclosure: the author of this article purchased the aircraft the moment he saw it available in the store. Firstly, he supports Ukraine in every way he can. Secondly, it's awesome. If you think I'm biased, you're right, and I'm proud of it.
