Last year, Devolver Digital announced they'd be bringing From Software's mech-shooter Metal Wolf Chaos to consoles and PC. The game, now titled Metal Wolf Chaos XD, was set for a "mid-2019" release. It looks like the time has come.
If the Microsoft Store is to be believed, Metal Wolf Chaos XD will launch on August 6th. It's a shame the game will miss the obviously ideal launch date of July 4th, but at least we have a date now. It's entirely possible, of course, that Microsoft is wrong and has simply added the wrong date to its listing. Still, on July 1st, Devolver Digital told fans to wishlist Metal Wolf Chaos XD on Steam. The studio said it would announce the release date this week. That lends some credence to Microsoft's date. The game's Steam page still lists "summer 2019" as its release window.
Metal Wolf Chaos was originally released in 2004 for the OG Xbox. The game was exclusive to Japan despite containing an English voice cast. From Software wanted to localize the game in the West, but this version was eventually canceled. Since then, From Software's mech game has garnered a pretty significant cult following. That's probably because of the game's "satirical" approach to American politics; it is, after all, a game about the President of the United States battling his vice president in a mech. That's an elevator pitch if ever I heard one. The remaster will feature improved visuals, gameplay improvements, and the original English voice acting in all its mad splendor.
All signs point to Metal Wolf Chaos being released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on August 6th. We'll have more info for you when the release date is officially confirmed, but it looks legit. I know a fair few TechRaptor staff who will be excited at the chance to finally play this game in its full glory.
