Amidst many recent controversies, some good news out of Konami today, as PC users awaiting the new Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will get to experience it the same time as everyone else on September 1st. Originally, the PC version had been planned for release slightly later than the console date, on September 15th. Konami says the date was changed to accommodate the call from PC users to have the same access to the game as console players. Konami President commented in a release:

“We initially did not think it would be possible to get such an epic game out onto PC in time for launch alongside its console counterparts, but all involved have worked diligently to meet the demands of our PC consumers,”

Metal Gear Solid V is now available on Steam for pre-order and those who pre-order will also get access to a copy of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, the prologue to The Phantom Pain. Console editions for the Playstation 3 and 4, and the Xbox 360 and One will also be released on September 1st.

This is some of the only good news to come out of Konami recently as this year has been rife with negative press for the company. Earlier in the year they announced the cancellation of the highly anticipated Silent Hills shortly followed by the reveal that Hideo Kojima would no longer be creating for Konami. Metal Gear Solid V fans were outraged when Kojima's name was removed from the box art for the game. And earlier today accusations were printed on Konami's work conditions, detailing a highly restrictive environment where employees are moved around often if they don't produce "enough", and perhaps even for support of people when they left the company. As well, rumors abound on Konami's seemingly fast paced downsizing and their stated move towards mobile based games over consoles.

The timing of this is convenient for Konami, but it may not be enough to overshadow the distrust many gamers have started to feel for the company.

Despite Konami's current reputation, are you still excited for Metal Gear Solid V? What do you think about the addition of the Ground Zeroes prologue for pre-orders?
